Camp Quality

Hi there folks!
We have recently concluded Camp Quality 2009. This huge project, now in its 22 year, aims to give children a breather from their everyday battle with cancer by having them over to our beautiful part of the country, and engaging them in activities they would otherwise not be able to experience.
The project which was started by the Nelspruit Club and is now run by Ed and June Coombes from White River has this year again enjoyed amazing participation by local business sponsors.
Here are some photos of Camp Quality 2009.

We kicked off with a braai to make everyone feel welcome. Here we have from left to right our President Raymond Morse, Past President Joan Schormann and project leader Ed Coombes having a chat with Esti from Emnotweni. Far right is Raymond the chef from Uplands.

Past President Leon Pitallo having a moment with the beef.

The next morning we went flying courtesy of the Nelspruit Aero Club. Here's pilot Simon Bennet giving the kids a flip in his chopper.

Here comes the cavalry!

All together now. In front of Mark Jackson's Bell Huey.

Next we went to Spur in Riverside Mall for a burger and a milkshake.

Here's a pic of Uncle Rob and the the kids with the owner, Francois and Ed Coombes.
That night the kids were visited by Sibusiso Vilane (First African to climb Everest) and BabyJakes the boxing champ.
Sibusiso had to leave us, but BabyJakes stayed for the next day when we visited Elephant Whispers in Hazyview.

Here's the man himself, dwarfed by one of the Ellies!

The Ellies getting up close and personal with the kids.

Next we went to Induna Adventures where the kids did things like scale the climbing wall, ride horses and quad bikes and 'foofied' down the zip-line. Scary!

On Saturday we went riding on motorcycles. The bikers gave the kids rides around the Uplands grounds, then took them for to take in a movie at Casterbridge Farm.

Next up was Chimp Eden where the kids got to watch the orphaned apes fooling around. Here we were joined with local beauty and Miss SA second princess Buyisiwe Shongwe. They alse dod some of the Land-Rover 4x4 trail.

Then we had a visit from MPower FM and Rotarian Pedro Solipa who handed out Goodie bags from Mugg&Bean Riverside and Milky Lane Riverside.

Throughout all the various interesting and exciting activities, porbably the most important of all is to allow these brave children battling cancer to forget about the hospital beds and needles and medicines and doctors and to simply allow them, even for just a short while, to just be kids.
